Introductory Lab Procedures

Before Coming to Lab.

Consult the lab schedule to see which lab you are doing and which room you need to go to. Note that the labs will not necessarily be done in the order of the lab manual. You should have read through the laboratory before coming to lab.

When You Arrive.

Please be on time. I may not let your lab partners start without you. If I let them start without you, I may dock your score for that lab. You should bring with you your lab manual, a calculator, and a pencil.

While in the Lab.

Please work in groups of 2 or 3. Show all your work in the appropriate pages of the lab manual, your computer printouts, and any required graphs.  When you are finished, staple all of these materials together in a logical order. Your grade will not be based on correctness of your data, but your responses to the questions should agree with the data you hand in. I may dock your score if you are not using appropriate care in taking your data, including proper use of the equipment.

Turning in Your Work.

Lab work is due at the end of the lab session. Each member of the group should turn in their own lab Late reports will not be accepted without prior permission. Turn your lab into the instructor rather than the lab aide.

Final Exam.

Your final exam is scheduled for the end of the semester. The breakdown of how the labs and the final go into your course grade should be announced by your professor in this class. Save your lab reports when they are returned to you to help you prepare for the exam. More details will be given to you later.

Absences.

If you need to miss a class please discuss it with me beforehand. With advance permission of both instructors, you may attend a different lab session during the same week. If you make up a lab in another instructors section, your lab report should be done in the format prescribed by that instructor. You are then responsible for getting your lab report to me in a timely manner.

Cheating.

Cheating in lab (e.g. falsifying data or copying data from another group) will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the lab section.

Note:

Any student requiring accommodations or services due to a disability must contact Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) in room 181 of the Student Service Center. SSD can also arrange to provide course materials (including this syllabus) in alternative formats if necessary.
